Program Overview
• Core focuses: a) empty hands, b) grappling, & c) weapons.
• Level 1 (white belt) empty hands & kicks
• Level 2 (yellow belt) knife hands & spinning kicks
• Level 3 (orange belt) elbow (close-quarters) & dropping kicks
Curriculum
Level 1: ‡ Focuses on fist and foot movements/hand coordination (palm strike) • 24 hands/feet movements • 2 katas (formations) • 0 self defense Level 2: ‡ Phase 1, knife-like hand movement and body rolls (or falls) • 23 hands/feet movements + all previous movements • 3 katas (formations) • 0 self defense ‡ Phase 2, below/above concept ( or high knife vs inside knife) & Spinning kicks • 9 hands/feet movements + all previous movements • 3 katas (formations) • 10 self-defense single movement techniques • 1|1, 2|1, & 3|1 sparring matches • Wood board breaking demonstration Level 3: ‡ Phase 1, focuses on close-quarter movements (elbow) & ground fighting (drop kicks) • 9 hands/feet movements + all previous movement • 4 katas (formations) • 4 takedowns technique w/ a finish + all previous self-dense techniques • 1|1, 2|1, & 3|1 sparring matches • Wood board breaking demonstration ‡ Phase 2, focuses on feinting or tricking techniques (pivoting kicks) • 6 hands/feet movements + all previous movement • 5 katas (formations) • All previous self-defense techniques • 1|1, 2|1, & 3|1 sparring matches • Wood board breaking demonstration
As a Student
As a student, you will complete the Youth & Adult Karate-do curriculum while mentoring other students, speaking publicly, obtaining leadership skills, and learn the method to teach and teaching to learn, while through it all, still learn to defend yourself.
